Brewers predicted to trade for $4 million All-Star closer, form game-ending duo with Trevor Megill image

When the Chicago Cubs traded for Edward Cabrera, it put the entire NL Central on notice. Now that they also signed Alex Bregman, any other team that wants to win the division needs to make a move now.

The reigning champs in the Milwaukee Brewers are no exception. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes the Brewers should go their normal cost-effective route and trade for San Diego Padres All-Star closer Mason Miller.

“Milwaukee has an excellent farm system and one of the deepest, most well-rounded MLB rosters. There aren’t a ton of holes to poke. What the Brewers maybe lack in outright star power, they tend to make up for with sheer competence across the board. That said, said depth does give them the ammo to go out and a swing a blockbuster trade. The Brewers will almost always operate under strict financial restraint, but Miller is a reliever being paid at cheap arbitration rates through 2029,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Miller posted a 2.63 ERA, 104 Ks, a WHIP of 0.908, and 22 saves in 60 games. Pair him up with the Brewers’ All-Star closer, Trevor Megill, and they can shut the door on almost every series next season.

And, as Kline mentioned, Miller is under arbitration for four years. This means they can have three years of Miller at least, and then either decide to flip him again for assets, let him walk after the fourth year, or try to re-sign him at some point.

With that many options, it makes sense to deal for him, especially when they only have two more years of Megill. Hopefully, Milwaukee picks up the phone to at least see what it would take to make a deal.
