The Milwaukee Brewers have officially been eliminated from the MLB playoffs after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. It was a dissapointing end to the season, but Milwaukee has shown resilience in the past in terms of turning the page to the next season.
As the hot stove season approaches, the Brewers are expected to be active in the free agent market, and while they may not make any huge splashes, Milwaukee's front office has done a great job at finding players that fit in the right spots.
Brewers linked to pursuing Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt
Chris Bassitt is currently focused on trying to propel his team to the World Series, but after the 2025 season ends, he will become a free agent.
In a recent Bleacher Report piece where writer Kerry Miller outlines what the Brewers' offseason could look like, he suggests pursuing Chris Bassitt:
"Might be aiming a little too expensive with this suggestion, but Bassitt will turn 37 before next season begins and has both an ERA and a FIP slightly north of 4.00 since the beginning of 2024."
Considering Bassitt's age, Milwaukee could look to sign Bassitt on a one- or two-year deal, and he would provide a strong veteran presence for some of Milwaukee's young arms.
Chris Bassitt started 31 games this season and over 170.1 innings, posting a 3.96 ERA and 166 strikeouts. He has been one of the more consistent starting pitchers in baseball over the past four seasons.
