The Milwaukee Brewers just had their best season in franchise history, making it all the way to the NLCS, only to end up being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers. You would think they would want to capitalize on this success in the offseason, but it seems the opposite will happen instead.
According to The Athletic’s Andy McCullough, the Brewers are going to hear offers for their All-Star ace, Freddy Peralta.

“In this case, as the winter unfolds, the Brewers are expected to at least field offers for starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, according to people familiar with the situation who requested anonymity in order to speak freely. Milwaukee holds an $8 million option for 2026 on Peralta, who went 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA and made his second All-Star team this season. The team can afford to retain Peralta, but will feel compelled to at least explore the market for his services, especially given the relative weakness of this class of free-agent pitchers,” McCullough wrote.
This season, Peralta finished with a record of 17-6, a 2.70 ERA, 204 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.075 over 176 innings pitched. He was also named as an All-Star, his second time receiving the nod.

This will be the third time the Brewers refused to pay a superstar in recent years, with them trading Corbin Burnes in 2023, and letting Willy Adames walk last offseason.
After such a great year, the Brewers shouldn’t be doing this. They need to be buyers in the offseason, not sellers. If they let Peralta go, it might be the final straw for their loyal fanbase.
