Unique Shohei Ohtani card sells for $3 million image

It's December, and a Shohei Ohtani record just got broken.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar just had a baseball card depicting him sell for more than any had before: $3 million.

This card was his Topps Gold Logoman Autograph Card, which sold for that price on Thursday night, according to MLB.com.

This was the only card of its kind in existence.

It features Ohtani's signature, as well as a gold patch that was on Ohtani's jersey in honor of him being 2024 NL MVP. The patch featured in this card was worn on April 29, 2025, when Ohtani homered against the Marlins, his first home run after the birth of his first child.

This card came into the public eye in a box break by Pete Anderson and his 11-year old twin sons, according to MLB.com.

They chose to auction the card off at Fanatics.

“They’re a big collecting family, but this is a meaningful amount of money for them, so they wanted to sell the card pretty much right away,” Fanatics Collect VP Kevin Lenane told MLB Network. “They loved the card, but for them, the value is in the experience, and not so much the card itself. And also, the dollars involved are pretty significant.”

The bidding went beyond $1 million in less than 24 hours.

According to MLB.com, this is the most any modern card has sold for since Mike Trout's signed 2009 Bowman Chrome Prospects Superfractor card sold for $3.93 million in 2020.

This doesn't directly impact Ohtani in any way, of course, but it shows how immense his impact on the sport of baseball really is.
