Proposed Dodgers trade sees L.A. land $5.75 million All-Star, Gold Glove utility man as upgrade from Kike Hernandez, Chris Taylor image

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series, and now they’re heading for the threepeat. If they want to maximize their chances, they need to make sure that their roster is top-notch.

While most of their spots are occupied by All-Stars and future Hall of Famers, there is one role they can upgrade: the utility man. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter thinks that if the Dodgers need a player who can play anywhere, they should make a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for All-Star Brendan Donovan.

The trade would look like this:

Dodgers get: UTL Brendan Donovan

Cardinals get: SS Emil Morales, RHP River Ryan, OF Kendall George

“For years, Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernández were invaluable pieces on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster thanks to their combination of offensive production and defensive versatility. Brendan Donovan could fill a similar role…With club control through 2027 and a reasonable $5.4 million projection for his 2026 salary, the Cardinals will need to be motivated to move him, and his versatility means a long list of potential suitors,” Reuter wrote.

This past season, Donovan slashed.287/.353/.422/.775 with 32 doubles, 10 home runs, and 50 RBI in 118 games played. His contact bat and Gold Glove would be an amazing upgrade for the Dodgers, especially since he can play almost anywhere.

Donovan will be a hot name on the trade market, so L.A. Needs to act quickly. Hopefully, they throw up an offer St. Louis can’t refuse, and get Donovan on their roster.
