A Dodgers' World Series title could have drastic implications across MLB image

The Los Angeles Dodgers are just two wins away from reaching the World Series in back-to-back seasons, which could have league-wide implications, according to MLB insiders.

After winning the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers went out and added in free agency and seemingly got better. It has been revealed this postseason that the Dodgers may be a "superteam", but the regular season wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

However, Los Angeles's spending habits have clearly upset some people in baseball, and specifically, MLB owners.

ESPN insider Jeff Passan believes an MLB season may be in jeopardy

In a recent ESPN article by Jeff Passan, the ESPN insider believes the 2027 MLB season may be in jeopardy if the Dodgers advance and ultimately win the World Series this season.

"The winner of the National League Championship Series could determine whether Major League Baseball is played in 2027," Passan wrote. "Owners across the game want a salary cap-- and if the Dodgers, with their record $500 million-plus payroll, win back-to-back World Series, it will only embolden the league's push to regulate salaries."

MLB is already expected to experience a lockout at the end of next season as the MLBPA and team owners try to agree on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. 

To no fault of their own, the Dodgers' winning ways may actually push baseball away in the future. If the Dodgers do repeat as World Series champions this season, it would further cement the belief of those who are for a salary cap in MLB, and that could be the new reality in professional baseball in a few years.
