The Los Angeles Dodgers thought they were getting a good left fielder when they signed Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million contract. Turns out, they were wrong and really put themselves in a hole.
Conforto was a fiasco, and the Dodgers need to go out and get someone who actually will live up to expectations. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes they will, by going out and pursuing Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker.
“Staying with the Cubs is also a strong possibility, as they did give up quite a package to acquire him in hopes of it being for more than just one season. But the Dodgers need a corner outfielder and are inherently the logical landing spot any time you're talking about paying someone a lot of money for a long time,” Miller wrote.
This season, Tucker slashed .266/.377/.464/.841 with 25 doubles, 22 homers, and 73 RBI in 136 games played. Conforto, on the other hand, only slashed .199/.305/.333/.637 with 20 doubles, 12 homers, and 36 RBI in 138 games.
So, it’s clear that Tucker would be a huge upgrade from Conforto. He’s also four years younger, meaning he’s still in his prime with no huge drop in talent anytime soon.
The only thing is he’s going to want a payday, but knowing the Dodgers, that’s not a problem. Hopefully, they call him up this offseason and see if he’s open to playing on the West Coast.
