Dodgers make Max Muncy contract decision to avoid free agency image

The Los Angeles Dodgers are back-to-back World Series Champions. It took seven games to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in the Fall Classic, but it was one of the most memorable baseball games in recent memory. 

In that Game Seven, third baseman Max Muncy hit a crucial and clutch solo home run in the eighth inning to bring the Dodgers within one run, and give Los Angeles life in the game and momentum carrying into the ninth inning. Today, it was announced that the Dodgers will be picking up the $10 million club option on Muncy, according to multiple reports.

Dodgers keep Muncy for $10M

This was one of the easiest decisions the Dodgers will have to make this offseason. Max Muncy is the Dodgers' all-time postseason home runs leader with 14. He will help Los Angeles go for a three-peat next season. 

Despite only playing in 100 games this season, the 35-year-old third baseman hit 19 home runs, drove in 67 runs, and posted an OPS+ of 136. He is a Silver Slugger finalist for third base. 

Muncy has been a staple of the Dodgers organization since 2018. He has 209 home runs and 587 RBIs in a Dodgers uniform and has countless big moments in October. Since 2018, Muncy has had four seasons of 35+ home runs. He's battled injuries just like any player, but he's been one of the glue pieces for Los Angeles.

There is no coincidence that there's a strong correlation between the Dodgers' success when Max Muncy is healthy and in the lineup. 

The contract decision had to be made on Thursday before the 5 p.m. Deadline, but it is no surprise that the team decided to pick up the option. Muncy will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 season.
