Dodgers insider urges LA to trade for Cardinals' $5M Gold Glove winner, outbid Giants, Mariners image

The Los Angeles Dodgers are almost always involved in chasing big names during the offseason — a perk of winning the last two World Series. They started off on fire in free agency by landing elite closer Edwin Díaz.

“The deal also contains a conditional club option for 2029, reports Jon Heyman of The New York Post. That option has a $6.5MM base, with Díaz able to earn an extra $750K for 45 games finished and 50 games finished, plus another $1MM for 55 games finished,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Steve Adams wrote.

The Dodgers have also been heavily linked to the Tarik Skubal trade race. Skubal is in the final year of his deal, and it doesn’t seem like the Detroit Tigers will pay to extend him. However, acquiring him would be a big risk.

“Unless the Dodgers are offering $400M+ Boras ain't letting his client sign an extension. You're trading for him because he helps you THIS YEAR. Having him for a year also HELPS your case to sign him in FA. Package is also not as steep without extension,” Dodgers writer Blake Harris wrote.

Recently, the Dodgers have also been connected to a versatile utility player: Brendan Donovan. Donovan can play multiple positions, and The Athletic’s Katie Woo believes he makes a lot of sense for the Dodgers to pursue.

“He’s just kind of one of those pick-and-plug players that the Dodgers seem to do really well with,” Woo said.

Woo isn’t wrong — look at what the Dodgers did with Tommy Edman. There are several players on the roster capable of playing multiple positions, and having that versatility is a big plus for the team. All that needs to happen is they need to offer more than the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners..

Donovan also brings a reliable bat in addition to his defensive versatility. Adding him would be another strong move for the Dodgers and could help set up a potential three-peat in Los Angeles.
