Dodgers' blockbuster trade projection would break baseball with top MLB pitcher in deal image

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series titles.

That won't stop their inherent desire to keep getting better.

How about a lot better?

A new projection from Jim Bowden, who was an MLB GM and now writes for The Athletic, has the Dodgers acquiring Tarik Skubal in a trade from the Detroit Tigers.

The full deal proposed by Bowden:

"The Tigers trade Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers for starting pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Emmet Sheehan and outfielder Zyhir Hope."

Glasnow would be a big loss, except getting Skubal for him is an upgrade.

Sheehan doesn't quite have a spot in the Dodgers' rotation. Hope is a top-tier outfield prospect.

"The Dodgers’ rotation goes from special to legendary with the addition of Skubal and his back-to-back Cy Young Awards," Bowden writes. "The Tigers say goodbye to their ace but add another top-of-the-rotation arm who is signed for three seasons, a young starter they can slide right into the rotation and a high ceiling prospect who eventually could form a dynamic outfield with Riley Greene and Max Clark."

If the Tigers are going to trade Skubal, this is close to the best they could be expected to do.

But all the headlines in a trade like this would go to the Dodgers.

The Dodgers will enter the 2026 season as the favorite to win the World Series. If they made this deal? They'd be absolutely overwhelming top dogs.
