Angels sign 2.20 ERA free agent pitcher from Blue Jays image

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have added a fun side-winder to their bullpen.

Nick Sandlin is the newest Angels addition, a free agent right-handed pitcher who most recently pitched with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Sandlin's deal was reported Monday afternoon by Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

The 29-year old pitched in 19 games at the MLB level for the Blue Jays in 2025 around some injury troubles. In that time, he had an impressive 2.20 ERA.

He was originally a second-round pick by Cleveland in the 2018 MLB Draft out of the University of Southern Mississippi.

He made his MLB debut in 2021 and spent his first four seasons pitching for Cleveland.

With the Guardians, Sandlin had a 3.27 ERA, so his strong bullpen work for Toronto wasn't a total surprise.

In his career, he has pitched 211.2 innings at the MLB level and allowed 143 hits. He also has 100 walks in that time, the one thing holding him back from being a totally dominant force.

Sandlin has struck out 239 batters in his 211.2 big league innings.

He's a great addition for the Angels, the kind of guy that can take the baseball more than 60 times in a season if he stays healthy. The Angels haven't been as competitive in recent seasons as they'd like, but a signing like Sandlin can put some solid glue into the pitching staff and help put together a season above expectations.
