The Kansas City Royals aren't in a hurry to promote Rich Hill.
In the end, it could prove costly.
The Royals brought in the 45-year old lefty on a minor league deal, and so far, he's been great down on the farm.
But Kansas City isn't calling Hill up. He's gone past the June 15 opt-out date that he could've used, but according to MLB insider Robert Murray, Hill essentially has been given the freedom by the Royals to leave if he finds a different major league contract.
K.C. might want to reconsider.

In Triple-A, he has a 2.81 ERA and a 29.7% strikeout rate.
If he can do even 80 percent of that in MLB, the Royals should have him on their roster right this second.
Hill clearly seems like he can throw forever, but that's probably not the case. Kansas City is wasting time on a ticking clock to see if Hill can be of help to their big league club.

There's no chance they signed him solely to pitch in Omaha. There had to be the thought that he could help in the majors.
And if another team swoops in first, it'll be a big blow to a plan that looked at first to be well executed by the Royals.
