Royals' Maikel Garcia contract details revealed for massive extension image

Maikel Garcia had a breakout 2025 MLB season for the Kansas City Royals.

They've decided they want to keep him around for the long haul.

On Friday, the Royals and Garcia agreed to a five-year contract extension, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Specific salary details of the deal have not yet been reported.

The contract also includes a club option for a sixth year, according to Passan.

The deal overlaps with superstar shortstop Bobby Witt's contract, which runs through 2030.

The 25-year old Garcia won the Gold Glove at third base in 2025 and finished 14th in American League MVP voting.

His bat took a gigantic leap forward, hitting more home runs (16) in one season than he had hit in his previous three MLB seasons (11).

That increased power went along with better numbers across the board, including a.286 batting average,.351 on-base percentage,.449 slugging percentage, 74 RBI and 23 steals.

Garcia, Witt, Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez form a stout heart of the order for Kansas City, which wants to get back into contention in the AL Central sooner rather than later.

Passan reports the Royals aren't done. They're in trade talks, too, including for potential deals involving Boston's Jarren Duran or Washington's MacKenzie Gore and CJ Abrams.

The Royals just went 82-80, and they could position themselves to make the playoffs in 2026 if they play this offseason right. Getting Garcia secured long term is a great start.
