The Houston Astros have gotten a great deal of success from Bryan Abreu, but if they want to keep improving, it might make sense to deal him for another star.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the Astros could be a perfect candidate for a three-team trade, which would land them two-time All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians. The trade would look like this:
Houston Astros get: LF Steven Kwan (from CLE)
Baltimore Orioles get: RHP Bryan Abreu (HOU)
Cleveland Guardians get: OF Dylan Beavers (BAL), OF Jacob Melton (HOU), and RHP Spencer Arrighetti (HOU)
“Houston would want more of a sure thing than that, though, if it's giving up its star setup man. Steven Kwan would qualify as that sure thing, both as an elite glove in left field and a.281 career hitter. He has two years of arbitration eligibility remaining, estimated at around $9 million in 2026 and probably more like $15 million in 2027,” Miller wrote.
This works for all teams involved. The Astros get an All-Star outfielder to lead their outfield, the Orioles finally get another set-up man after trading two away, and the Guardians get two prospects and a rookie to further make their roster younger.
Hopefully, the Astros get on the phone with Cleveland and Baltimore and see if they can get the ball rolling for when the offseason starts. If they can make a splash early in the season, the Astros could see themselves at the top of the AL West once again.
