The Detroit Tigers have been active this offseason, but the main areas they've focused on are the bullpen, with Kenley Jansen and Kyle Finnegan coming to Detroit.

But when it comes to the lineup, there's a big hole at third base. Fortunately, there's a great option sitting in free agency that makes a lot of sense.

Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press is calling on the Tigers to make an aggressive move this winter and sign free agent former Houston Astros star, third baseman Alex Bregman.

Tigers urged to sign free agent 3B Alex Bregman

"The Tigers need a Christmas miracle," Petzold writes. "The Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Chicago Cubs are in the hunt for free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman, while the Tigers are in wait-and-see mode as lukewarm interest continues."

Detroit, despite being in clear need of a player like Bregman, isn't going strongly after the former Astros and Boston Red Sox star third baseman.

A year ago, the Tigers were runner-ups to the Red Sox for Bregman. This offseason, while the Red Sox are once again one of the favorites, the Tigers could swoop in and steal Bregman from the rest of the top contenders.

There's a chance that his free agent market falls apart, with his best options potentially finding alternatives in Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Ketel Marte, and other options atop the free agent and trade market.

"If Bregman's market crashes, the Tigers could jump into the mix in mid-January." Petzold writes. "For now, he is expected to sign a long-term contract wit hone of those four teams - not the Tigers."

Petzold has the Tigers signing Bregman as one of the more unlikely wishlist items for the Tigers, as the chances of Bregman coming to Detroit look slim.

The Tigers are not likely to sign Bregman, but Petzold is urging the Tigers to find a way to get something done. He'd be a great addition for the Tigers, but their odds of getting the former Astros star don't look great.
