With a new month of the regular season starting after this weekend, it's safe to say the Detroit Tigers will be preparing to play in the postseason.
The Tigers currently have the best record in the American League (79-57) and are 9.5 games ahead of the Kansas City Royals for the top spot in the AL Central.
As they continue their pursuit of the division title, Detroit will look to take its weekend series against Kansas City on Saturday night.
Tigers' Beau Brieske gets shut down for the regular season with elbow soreness
While the Tigers prepare for October baseball, it's been announced that 27-year-old relief pitcher Beau Brieske will be shut down for the rest of the regular season, Jeff Greenberg of The Detroit News said.
Brieske, a right-handed bullpen pitcher for the Tigers, has been having a rough season in 2025. In 22 appearances, Brieske has career-highs in ERA (6.55), WHIP (1.64), while having 16 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.
He's been on the Tigers' injured list since May and landed on Triple-A Toledo's injured list in early July. Before the setback, he appeared in nine games, posting a 0-1 record with a 9.00 ERA and eight strikeouts over 10 innings in the minors.

Detroit was able to go out and trade for Washington Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan at the deadline. It's unclear if Beau Brieske will be ready to pitch in October, so the newly acquired bullpen pitcher will most likely be the guy to rely on for the postseason.
Since joining the Tigers, Finnegan has a 3-0 record, 0.00 ERA, and 0.45 WHIP in 11 appearances.
