The Detroit Tigers are planning to be active in free agency this winter, and while offseason rumors have been dominated by Tarik Skubal trade talk, the Tigers are also eyeing a few key additions.

One player often linked to the Tigers is former Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman. Detroit has interest, and had interest at various points over the last year.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic, as part of his offseason wish-list, predicted that Bregman would wind up with the Tigers. He also laid out a potential contract, and it's a very reasonable $182 million deal.

Tigers predicted to sign Alex Bregman to $182 million contract

"Alex Bregman signs with the Detroit Tigers on a 6-year, $182 million pact." Bowden writes. "The Tigers just missed on Bregman last winter, but they won't this time around."

Bowden's proposed deal for Bregman is a six-year, $182 million contract. The veteran third baseman opted out of a $40 million per-year deal with the Red Sox for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, and if this were the deal he takes, he'd sign for a $10 million discount.

While it's a big difference in total value, with Bregman set to make $80 million over the next two years versus $182 million over the next six years, the AAV discount for the Tigers in this deal would be a very reasonable contract to sign.

Bregman is 31 years old and coming off his third All-Star season. While it was shortened due to injury, as he played just 114 games, it was one of the best offensive seasons he's had in a while.

He hit.273 with an.821 OPS, both the best marks he's had since his incredible 2019 season when he hit.296 with a remarkable 1.015 OPS.

An improved offensive showcase and quality defense make Bregman one of the more appealing free agents on the market. He fills a need for the Tigers, and if this proposed deal were to come true, then Detroit would get Bregman on a $10 million discount.
