The first trade of the Detroit Tigers' 2025 trade deadline had the Tigers landing a new starting pitcher from the Minnesota Twins in Chris Paddack. They also brought in Randy Dobnak, but the acquisition of Paddack was the more important player for Detroit.

After his first start in a Tigers uniform, Paddack, who went six strong innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out five with no walks.

It was a great debut for Paddack, and after the game, Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press shared Paddack's reaction to being traded to Detroit, including Paddack taking a subtle jab at the Twins.

"My life got twisted upside down in a matter of 24 hours," Paddack said. I've been traded before, but never at the deadline. It's going to take some time getting used to. Everybody has been awesome so far. These facilities here, all the coaching staff, nutritionists, the kitchen - it's amazing what they have compared to what we had over at the Twins."

Paddack was previously traded by the Miami Marlins to the San Diego Padres, and later, was traded from the Padres to the Twins. But this is the first time he's been dealt in the middle of his season, and he didn't miss a step for Detroit.

But, while Paddack expressed how this change of scenery is something he's still trying to manage, he also took a jab at the Twins. He essentially called out the Twins for their facilities by praising the Tigers' versions, and showing amazement at the difference.

His high praise of the Tigers' facilities is a good sign for Detroit for multiple reasons. Not only are the players being treated right, but comments like these could help other players feel incentivized to come to Detroit in the offseason.

Paddack took a subtle jab at the Twins, but also expressed how he's felt over the past few days. It's been a whirlwind, going from being traded to making his debut on his new team. But he has a strong mindset and is approaching his trade the right way.

"I'm just trying to put my head down and contribute and win some ballgames any way I can," Paddack said. "It was a good one to get that first one out of the way."

After a successful first start for the Tigers, the first move of the trade deadline for Detroit looks to be panning out. Paddack not only pitched well, but he also took a shot at a division rival after leaving for the Tigers.
