The Detroit Tigers didn't make a splash move at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, but one of the many moves they made has turned out to be an incredible one.
Scott Harris and the Tigers front office swung a deal with the Washington Nationals, acquiring closer Kyle Finnegan to join the Tigers' bullpen amid a slew of other additions. Since he's come to Detroit, he's been incredible.
But, after getting shut down mid-warm-up, the Tigers announced that they are placing closer Kyle Finnegan on the injured list. It's a right adductor strain, as the Tigers' best trade deadline pickup is going to miss some time.
Tigers Announce Unfortunate Kyle Finnegan Injury Update
Finnegan was in the middle of warming up to come into the game against the New York Mets before apparently tweaking something, which was later determined to be right groin tightness. Finnegan underwent tests, and a few days after his warmup was cut short, he's hitting the injured list.
RHP Kyle Finnegan has been placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to September 1) with a right adductor strain.

OF Parker Meadows has been activated off of the 10-day injured list.
It's a tough blow for the Tigers, as the veteran closer has been dominant since coming to Detroit. In 12 appearances, he's not allowed a single earned run, carving out a 3-0 record with four saves across 14.1 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts.
He's allowed just three hits and three walks with the Tigers, good for a 0.419 WHIP, by far the best mark of his career. His previous career best was a 1.140 in 2022. In 2024, he was an All-Star with the Nationals, but he finished the year with a 3.68 ERA.

Before coming to Detroit in 2025, Finnegan had a 4.38 ERA in 40 appearances. With the Tigers, he's been at his best, but now, he's hitting the injured list and will miss some time amid a key postseason push for Detroit.
With a chance to earn a first-round bye, this absence for Finnegan is a brutal blow for the Tigers. Will Vest and the rest of the bullpen will need to step things up as Finnegan misses time.
Detroit is set to begin a series against the Chicago White Sox before heading to New York to face the New York Yankees in a huge early-September series.
The Tigers sit 9.5 games up on the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central, and four games up on the Houston Astros in the race for the second first-round bye in the American League playoff standings.
