Tigers announce injury update on Colt Keith after exit vs. Guardians image

The Detroit Tigers have lost momentum at a tough time in the season. After getting swept by the Cleveland Guardians earlier this week, the Tigers hold just a 3.5-game lead in the AL Central.

With nine games left in the regular season, their position in the playoff picture is still in question, and the Guardians are creeping in on possibly taking over the top spot in the division.

As soon as the team thought things couldn't get worse, they were dealt some unfortunate news on one of their top depth pieces.

Tigers place Colt Keith on IL before series vs. Braves

The Tigers will look to get things going once again in a weekend series against a struggling Atlanta Braves team, but they will be down one of their top depth pieces for the rest of the regular season.

After exiting the Tigers' 3-1 loss against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday, utility infielder Colt Keith was placed on the 10-day injured list due to right rib inflammation, RotoWire.com reported.

The move will put an end to Keith's regular season with hopes that he can return sometime during the postseason, although the Tigers have yet to clinch a spot for October baseball.

With this news, Keith will finish his second season in the MLB, appearing in 137 games and having a .256 batting average, .333 on-base percentage, .413 slugging percentage, and a .746 OPS while hitting 13 home runs and 45 RBI.
