Unfortunately, the Detroit Tigers were not one of the 12 teams that were taking players in the major league phase of the Rule 5 Draft. Instead, they saw their No. 30 prospect, RJ Petit, get stolen away by the Colorado Rockies

However, the major league phase was not the only phase in Wednesday's Rule 5 Draft. The minor league phase also went down, allowing teams to take minor leaguers for a fraction of the cost that other teams do not want.

Detroit made four picks during this phase. They came into the day with a clear goal in mind and selected four players who share the same position.

Detroit had the 16th pick in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft. Here, they took Luke Taggart, a right-handed pitcher from the Rockies.

Taggart has been used as a relief pitcher over the years. While he is not considered a flamethrower, he has good stuff and attacks the zone well.

Next, the Tigers took RHP Jan Caraballo from the San Francisco Giants. He has also been used as a reliever, and will be one that fans will not miss, standing at a whopping 6'6".

After Caraballo, the Tigers decided to take another RHP, this time being John Stankiewicz from the Minnesota Twins. He is also someone who is not considered a flamethrower and relies more on mixing speeds and varying rotations.

Lastly, the Tigers also selected RHP Yendy Gomez from the Los Angeles Angels. He spent the majority of the 2025 season at the rookie level but was brought up to High-A later in the year.

Despite not taking a player in the major league phase, the Tigers did what they needed to do in the minor league phase, adding some quality talent to their system.
