It's likely going to be a long, slow build for the Colorado Rockies.
That doesn't mean they should avoid seeking any improvements this offseason, though. There are players in free agency who can help them take a step in the right direction.
The Athletic's Andy McCullough wrote a new article this week outlining one player who would make sense for every team in free agency.
For the Rockies, he picked Chas McCormick.
McCormick is a free agent from the Houston Astros who is a great defender in the outfield.
In his career, he's also a.247 hitter with a.734 OPS.
"Figuring out how to prevent runs at Coors Field likely won’t involve a simple answer," McCullough writes. "But one theory advanced by rival executives, at least, involves the team finding a bunch of above-average fielders to handle the expansive outfield confines. McCormick can go get it at all three outfield positions and could use an offensive springboard after two miserable seasons at the plate in Houston."
McCormick is 30, and he likely wouldn't be around for the long haul if the Rockies ever find a way to fully turn things around.
But he could serve as a solid test case. If a guy like McCormick does indeed make Colorado better, they'll know what sort of player to seek out in the future.
It'd also be a chance for a fresh start for McCormick, who batted just.210 in a rough 2025 and would love a chance to rebound to some of the numbers he put up earlier in his career.
