No one has ever done this before.
Seriously. The Cleveland Guardians are unprecedented in MLB history.
Before Sunday, the largest deficit ever to have been overcome to win a league (1900-1968) or a division (1969-present) was 15 games back.
That stat, via MLB Network's Sarah Langs, reveals that the 1914 Atlanta Braves had made up 15.0 games in the standings.
Others on the list behind them: 1978 Yankees (14.0 GB), 2012 Athletics (13.0 GB), 1995 Mariners (13.0 GB), 1951 Giants (13.0 GB).
But these Guardians? They once trailed the Detroit Tigers by 15.5 games in the AL Central Division.
An epic Tigers collapse paired with a huge Guardians run to bring Cleveland all the way to the division title by the time Sunday was over.
Talk about a complete comeback.
The Guardians needed a comeback on Sunday to do it, too. The Rangers took an 8-5 lead in the top of the 10th inning.
But in the bottom half, Cleveland got one run back before Brayan Rocchio hit a walk-off three-run home run.
This is just what the Guardians do at this point.
