Reds' chance of trading Hunter Greene revealed by ESPN's Jeff Passan image

Hunter Greene would surely like to forget his final pitching outing of the 2025 season.

The Cincinnati Reds' ace got shelled and exited early in Dodger Stadium in the wild card round.

At the time, it was wondered if that would be Greene's last pitching appearance for the Reds. He's been a popular name in trade rumors.

Now, though, it sounds like that's not a worry.

ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote this on Tuesday:

"A minuscule chance he moves. Not quite Skenes, but pretty close."

Passan had just written about the Pirates ace Paul Skenes, "He's not going anywhere." So he's comparing Greene in that way, that it's almost as small a chance.

It did feel like one of those names that gets thrown out in the offseason not because there's real reporting on it but just because it seems to fit a particular narrative.

Except in this case, the Reds have Greene on a solid contract and are looking to improve, not rebuild.

Greene is the guy they want to give the ball in the first game of their next playoff series. The front office and manager Terry Francona have each affirmed this offseason that they're sticking with Greene.

This report from the well-informed Passan essentially sets that in stone. Green shouldn't be going anywhere.

The Reds have plenty of work to do this offseason. But it sounds like it'll be to add around Greene, not to replace him.
