The Chicago White Sox are keeping their pre-Christmas spending spree going.

A few days after landing Japanese superstar Munetaka Murakami, the White Sox landed a former first-round pick on Tuesday, Sean Newcomb.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the deal, which will be for one year and $4.5 million for the left-handed pitcher.

Newcomb is a 6-foot-5 southpaw who entered the pro ranks as the No. 15 overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of Hartford, selected by the Angels.

He ended up with the Braves for the first half of his career, initially as a starter before transitioning to the bullpen.

Newcomb went on to pitch for the Cubs, the Athletics, the Red Sox and then the A's again.

He split the 2025 season between Boston and the A's and had a combined 2.73 ERA in 92.1 innings with 91 strikeouts.

In his MLB career, Newcomb has a 4.20 ERA and a 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings ratio.

His career walks per nine is 4.6, but he lowered that to 3.0 in 2025, contributing to his success.

If Newcomb can limit free baserunners, he can be a dominant lefty arm. The White Sox will be hoping that's exactly what happens in the season again for a team that all of a sudden is going to be a sleeper to contend in the AL Central Division.
