The Chicago Cubs are one of the most historic franchises in the MLB, and have always had a strong, faithful fanbase.

The 2025 season was no different. In fact, the Cubs set the highest average attendance at Wrigley field this year since the 2019 season before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, the Cubs averaged 38,208 fans per game at Wrigley field, but hadn't surpassed 36,000 fans in the five years since. However, this year the Cubs averaged over 37,000 fans and ranked No. 5 in the MLB, according to 670 The Score's Bruce Levine.

Cubs Record Highest Attendance at Wrigley Field Since 2019

The Cubs all-time attendance record came in 2008 when Chicago averaged 40,743 fans per game at Wrigley Field, and prior to the 2020 pandemic season, the Cubs had four straight years averaging at least 38,200 fans, according to Baseball Almanac.

That four year stretch was highlighted by the Cubs' 2016 World Series season when they averaged 39,906 fans per home game.

However, since the pandemic year in 2020, Chicago had seen an increase in average fans per game each year, but hadn't returned to the same numbers from pre-pandemic.

Although that continued in 2025, the Cubs still ranked No. 5 in the MLB with more than 37,000 fans per game at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs will finish the season with nearly three million tickets sold across 79 games at Wrigley Field. Chicago lost two home games because of its season opening series in Japan against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The steady increase in ticket sales since the 2020 pandemic season makes sense for a historic team like the Cubs. Plus, Chicago exceeded all expectations in the first half of the season, and later clinched a playoff berth.

The 2025 Cubs' squad has given the fans plenty to show up for and will now continue to do so into the postseason. The Cubs roster has plenty of young talent and should continue to draw more fans in the future.
