The Chicago Cubs haven’t really made any big moves this offseason, until now. Today, they just traded their top prospect Owen Cassie, along with a couple others for rising star ace Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins.
With that in mind, they can now go and target a big bat to power up their offense with Kyle Tucker possibly on his way out. Fansided’s Mark Powell believes the team is between All-Stars Bo Bichette and Alex Bregman.
“Chicago is reportedly interested in both Bo Bichette and Alex Bregman. Either player would sign as the team's starting third baseman, one would assume…The Cubs are interested in both of these stars because they want to upgrade the third base position. While Matt Shaw has a lot of potential, his production didn't cut it in 2025. Signing Bregman or Bichette gives Chicago a number of options…Either way, it should be encouraging to Cubs fans that the front office is getting creative and finding unique ways to fill the void left behind by Tucker,” Powell wrote.
With the Cabrera deal, the Cubs don’t have to pursue more depth in starting pitching. However, if they land Bichette or Bregman, they can then use pieces like Nico Hoerner and Matt Shaw to set up one last trade for another starter.

Hopefully, the Cubs make one last push for at least one more star, whoever it may be, to make this somewhat boring offseason of theirs exciting.
