Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong gets $1,206,207 bonus in MLB pre-arbitration contract rule image

Pete Crow-Armstrong may have had a rough second half to the 2025 MLB season for the Chicago Cubs.

But that didn't erase how impressive his first half was, or how bright his future is believed to be.

The lefty centerfielder is one of the best young players in baseball.

On Tuesday, PCA got a bit of a bonus for his troubles.

MLB has a relatively new rule that allows players who aren't yet eligible for salary arbitration to get money from a league-wide bonus pool.

The Associated Press described it like this: "A total of 101 players will receive the payments under a plan aimed to get more money to players without sufficient service time for salary arbitration eligibility going into the season, which was two years, 132 days. Players signed as foreign professionals are not eligible."

The bonus total is calculated by an MLB formula that uses postseason awards and Wins Above Replacement.

Crow-Armstrong's bonus: $1,206,207.

He gets the third biggest bonus for a hitter, behind just Corbin Carroll and Nick Kurtz.

PCA has power, speed and some of the best defensive ability in the major leagues. If a ball is hit to centerfield in Wrigley Field, it's going to be caught.

The Cubs will hope for Crow-Armstrong to take another leap in 2026 with Kyle Tucker presumably departing. And if he can harness his first half of 2025, he can build on some great things.
