The Chicago Cubs have been one of the top teams in the National League this season. At 51-35, they lead the NL Central by three games and have the second-best record in the Senior Circuit.
More than likely, Chicago will look to augment its roster and make a second-half push this year. They are in need of another starting pitcher.
They recently received a boon thanks to the return of Shota Imanaga, but Justin Steele is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
In Jim Bowden's recent survey in The Athletic, Pittsburgh Pirates starter Mitch Keller was listed as the second most likely starter to be traded at the deadline. Bowden listed the Cubs as a possible landing spot.
"A lot of teams have called Pittsburgh to inquire about Keller. The Pirates need offense and realize they’re going to have to trade from their starting rotation to acquire young, impact bats," Bowden wrote.
"The Cubs and Mets are among the possible landing spots for Keller."

Keller recently pitched seven shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals, improving to 3-10 on the season and lowering his ERA to 3.64. His record is mainly due to his lack of run support.
In Chicago, Keller would have a much easier time racking up wins, as the Cubs have a very powerful offense capable of scoring a lot of runs.
The Cubs would have to give up a significant package to satisfy the Pirates potential asking price, but it will be worth it if they can improve their starting rotation.
Another solid starter will give the Cubs a much better chance of potentially running away with the NL Central and making a deep postseason run this coming fall.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the Cubs pursue Keller.
