The Chicago Cubs have accomplished something they haven’t done since 2016.
Following Ian Happ’s walk-off single in the 10th inning to take three of four games from the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cubs have won their first five series against the National League Central, according to Cubs Postgame Live!
The last time this happened, the Cubs went on to win the World Series.
Not only is this the first time this has happened since 2016, the Cubs are also off to their best start since 2016.
At 44-28, the Cubs hold a five-and-a-half game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the NL Central.
The Cubs have been able to win games in different ways. Their offense is one of the best in baseball, but when they aren’t getting timely hits, the pitching staff has kept them in games.

Even though the starting rotation hasn’t been great since Shota Imanaga went down on May 4, Jameson Taillon, Matthew Boyd and Cade Horton have been excellent.
The bullpen didn’t have a great start to the season, but after giving up 10 runs in the eighth inning to the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 18, they have been the best unit in the league.
The Cubs will be getting Imanaga back soon pending a setback and have been rumored to be aggressive at the trade deadline. If they trade for another quality starting pitcher, history may repeat itself.
