The Cubs had everything going for them in Friday's Fourth of July matchup against the Cardinals. So much so, that Chicago set a new franchise record.

With eight home runs, which came between five players, the Cubs set a new team record for team homers in a single game. They also improved to 53-35 on the season and 29-15 at home, tracking to run away with the NL Central as the summer rolls on.

Two players hit multiple homers, including three from first baseman Michael Busch in a career day. 

Here's a look at the Cubs' new franchise record for home runs in a game, eight, which came on Friday against St. Louis.

Most home runs in a game in Cubs history

The Cubs blasted eight baseballs into the bleachers on Friday, a new franchise record. Previously, their team-high in a game was seven, which happened on four occassions.

Most recently, Chicago hit seven home runs in a game in August 2023 against the Reds.

How many home runs did the Cubs hit?

The Cubs hit a total of eight home runs against the Cardinals in Friday's matchup at Wrigley Field, a new franchise record. Five of those long balls came between two players alone.

By allowing six of Chicago's eight home runs, Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas tied the modern MLB record for home runs allowed in a single game.

Which players hit home runs?

Seiya Suzuki opened the avalanche of power for Chicago, slugging a home run to left field in the first inning. It was his 24th of the season so far.

Pete Crow-Armstrong then continued his breakout campaign with another first-inning home run, slapping one into right-center field. 

In each of the next two innings, the same thing happened: two Cubs home runs. First, Michael Busch opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with his first of three homers on the day.

Catcher Carson Kelly followed with a blast of his own.

In the third inning, Crow-Armstrong and Busch both made it multi-homer days. The center fielder, and NL MVP candidate, went first:

Busch, who wouldn't be finished for the game, clobbered his second baseball of the day.

In the bottom of the seventh, shortstop Dansby Swanson chimed in, going deep into center field.

To finish off the unreal power display, Busch notched his third of the game, which he sent to the opposite field.

After the 11-3 Cubs win, the five home-run hitters posed together for a photo to commemorate the team history.
