The Chicago Cubs have been in the market for top starting pitching options this offseason, and while a few have gone elsewhere, there are still plenty of great options available.

While the free agent market is robust, the Cubs were more likely to get involved in the trade market, and of the possible trade targets, one is reportedly close to coming to Chicago.

According to Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation, the Cubs are finalizing a trade to acquire a right-handed starter from the Miami Marlins.

Cubs finalizing trade for Marlins' Edward Cabrera

"BREAKING: Cubs are finalizing a deal to acquire SP Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins," Cerami reported.

This trade for Edward Cabrera would be a huge move to get across the finish line for the Cubs. In need of another starter to pair with their current crop of starters, Cabrera would be an incredible option.

The 27-year-old right-hander, who's 6'5'' and entering his sixth season in the Majors, is under club control through the 2028 MLB season.

Cabrera wouldn't be a one-year rental; he would be around for the 2026, 2027, and 2028 seasons for the Cubs as they look to contend going forward.

This past season with the Marlins, Cabrera had a 3.53 ERA in 26 starts with 2.8 bWAR, and a 125 ERA+ for his best overall season since entering the Majors.

He struck out 150 batters, walked 48, had a WHIP of 1.228, and allowed 17 home runs across 137.2 innings pitched.

Cabrera might not be at Tarik Skubal's levels of dominance, but in the trade market, between his cheap contract, three years of control, and the promise he's shown thus far, Cabrera is an incredible get for the Cubs once this deal is finalized.
