Michael Fulmer didn't do anything wrong.
But when the Chicago Cubs needed a roster spot to active Shota Imanaga from injury, it was Fulmer who the Cubs designated for assignment.
The move removes Fulmer from the 40-man roster and places him on waivers, where another team could claim him.
Fulmer made two appearances with the Cubs this season, going 3.0 innings and not allowing a run.
The 6-foot-3 righty was also strong at Triple-A Iowa this season, putting up a 2.96 ERA.

Fulmer was long ago a first-round pick by the Mets in 2011.
He made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers and won AL Rookie of the Year.
After Detroit, Fulmer has pitched for the Twins, the Red Sox and now the Cubs in two separate stints.
Fulmer was already DFA'd earlier this season by Boston, and now he could be on the move again.
His recent strong stretch could draw in interest from contending teams who need bullpen help.
Fulmer is still just 32 years old and could have some solid pitching left in him. He has a career 3.95 ERA at the MLB level.
