The Chicago Cubs have made it their mission to be one of the hottest teams this offseason. They have made multiple moves that, on paper, should make them a better team in 2026.
The Cubs started off the offseason with some necessary moves, like bolstering their bullpen. They signed Phil Maton, Caleb Thielbar, Hoby Milner, Jacob Webb, Drew Pomeranz, and Michael Soroka on one-year deals.
But their biggest moves came recently when they went out and acquired Edward Cabrera in a trade with the Miami Marlins. They then followed that up by signing Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million contract.

Cubs could cap off an explosive offseason by adding a fourth outfielder
If the Cubs were done with their offseason spending today, the fanbase would be pretty happy. However, they still have a few more holes they could fill before Spring Training kicks off.
The outfield depth is pretty thin compared to other teams. They could use a veteran fourth outfielder to step up and help stabilize things.
Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller believes former Cubs slugger Mike Tauchman could be a realistic option for the team at this point.
"They are now, like Atlanta, well-staffed across the board, albeit with one key difference: outfield depth. Maybe 23-year-old Kevin Alcantara proves to be the answer as the fourth outfielder. But if that's not the case, a reunion with OF Mike Tauchman wouldn't cost much and would keep them from needing to put Seiya Suzuki's glove in right field on a daily basis."
Tauchman played for the Cubs from 2023 to 2024 before he caught on with the Chicago White Sox last season. He is familiar with the organization and could be an excellent addition, allowing the club to use Seiya Suzuki as a DH and not have to depend on him starting in the outfield every game.
