Despite the latest rumors, the Boston Red Sox might not be as close to a deal with Alex Bregman as some want to believe.
According to Robert Murray of FanSided, there’s still uncertainty around how aggressive Boston has actually been in its pursuit of Bregman.
Speaking on a recent episode of the “Baseball Insiders” podcast, Murray was skeptical of the idea that the Red Sox have already put a big offer on the table.
“Going to Bregman here,” Murray said, per Boston.com. “You have the Red Sox. I still have not gotten confirmation on that Red Sox report about making an ‘aggressive’ offer. I know he’s got a good market, that’s what I’ve been told.”
Boston has been consistently linked to Bregman, and the fit makes sense on and off the field. However, Murray’s comments suggest the Red Sox may be playing this one slower than most expected.
The issue, though, is that if the Red Sox don’t make a strong push soon, there’s a chance another team will. It’s about to be mid-January, and he’s still unsigned, meaning a team could try to get something done.
Until an actual big-time offer is presented, the Red Sox and Bregman might be far away from a reunion.
