The Boston Red Sox have had a shaky winter. They've made a couple of nice trades, but they also saw Alex Bregman leave to join the Chicago Cubs in a heartbreaking free-agent decision.
Fortunately, not long after losing Bregman, the Red Sox bounced back.
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, Boston has signed Ranger Suarez to a $130 million, five-year deal.
With Suarez now on the roster, the new-look starting rotation for 2026 is unbelievably deep. It's not just depth; the overall rotation is incredibly impressive and should be the team's strength in 2026 and beyond.
Red Sox projected starting rotation for 2026
1. Garrett Crochet
2. Ranger Suarez
3. Sonny Gray
4. Brayan Bello
5. Johan Oviedo
That's a strong starting-five, with a combination of right-handers and left-handers, and led by a Cy Young candidate in Crochet. It's one of the best rotations in Major League Baseball and will surely give the Red Sox a fighting chance in 2026 and beyond.
But that's far from the only starters in Boston. The team has a lot more options on the table, with another full rotation waiting in the wings as depth.
6. Kutter Crawford
7. Connelly Early
8. Payton Tolle
9. Kyle Harrison
10. Patrick Sandoval
These next five starting pitchers would be enough of a rotation to be excited about on their own. While it's not a postseason caliber group, it's a five-man rotation that would have plenty of upside for fans to root for if they were the team's rotation.

And for the Red Sox, all five are backups. Tolle and Early are young starters who could be huge pieces of the rotation going forward, while Crawford, Harrison and Sandoval are high-quality depth pieces.
Putting together a strong five-man rotation is not an easy task to do, and arguably, after the Red Sox have signed Suarez to a $130 million deal, the team has assembled two Major League quality rotations this winter.
Boston losing Bregman stings, and there's still a need to upgrade the infield. But, for now, the 2026 starting rotation looks to be the deepest and one of the best in Major League Baseball.
