The Boston Red Sox have come to a realization in this past week that their offense heavily relies on their superstar rookie, Roman Anthony. This offseason the Sox need to find some more reliable firepower to support him.
Apparently, they don’t have to look far, as reuniting with an old friend might be possible. According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, the Sox are the best spot for current Phillies and former Sox Kyle Schwarber, who will be a free agent this offseason.
“Instead, Schwarber was not extended and will be a free agent after the season – and considering his production this year, with 49 home runs and 120 RBI, he’s going to cash in and have many suitors involved in his market,” Murray wrote. “Schwarber, of course, was previously with Boston. He thrived at Fenway Park. His teammates loved him. He was, in every sense, the perfect acquisition for the Red Sox. Not re-signing him when he was a free agent was a mistake, and they have a chance to right that wrong now. They have the money saved after trading Rafael Devers and signing Roman Anthony early. It makes too much sense for both Schwarber and the Red Sox.”
This season, Schwarber has slashed .241/.365/.560/.925 with 20 doubles and 49 homers, and is a top contender for MVP. If the Sox were to sign him, he would become the primary DH, as the Sox already have Jarren Duran in left field, Schwarber’s other position.

This means the Sox would have to find a way to move Masataka Yoshida, the team’s current DH. However, if it means they can land Schwarber, the Sox would probably do whatever it takes to get Yoshida out.
Hopefully the Sox land Schwarber, as letting him go after 2021 was a big mistake in and of itself. Schwarber would be a perfect fit for the Sox, and they have the money to go get him.
