One of the Boston Red Sox’ main goals this offseason is to figure out how to clear the logjam in the outfield. With four star outfielders looking for playing time, the most popular proposal is dealing All-Star Jarren Duran to strengthen other weaknesses.
Fansided’s Chris Landers believes he’s crafted the best possible trade proposal the Sox could do that would get them help in areas they need. For him, the best destination to send Duran to would be the Kansas City Royals.
The trade would look like this:
Red Sox get: LHP Noah Cameron, C Blake Mitchell, RHP John Schreiber
Royals get: OF Jarren Duran
“I could see either fan base being a little miffed by this trade, which makes me think it's the closest we might be able to come. Kansas City is moving Cole Ragans, and neither Seth Lugo nor Michael Wacha figure to move the needle much for Boston. Cameron isn't the top-of-the-rotation guy Red Sox fans are likely hoping for, but he's coming off an excellent rookie year with six seasons of control still left to go…Carter Jensen played himself into untouchable territory with his scorching start in the Majors this year, but Mitchell is still a very good prospect in his own right who could form one heck of a one-two punch with Carlos Narvaez in a year or two,” Landers wrote.
While this isn’t the Joe Ryan return most Sox fans envisioned, it does solve a couple of problems. It gives them a sub-3 ERA pitcher in Cameron, the No. 2 prospect in the Royals’ farm in Mitchell, and reunites them with a reliever to strengthen their pen in Schreiber.
Hopefully, the Sox get a better trade offer for Duran. However, keeping something like this in the back pocket after the Winter Meetings go down would be a smart play.
