The Boston Red Sox are off and running for an active offseason.
There apparently is at least one player they won't be going after, though: Bo Bichette.
The Toronto Blue Jays free agent will be the highest-paid infielder available on the open market. But according to MLB writer Julian McWilliams, the Red Sox are out on Bichette.
This does make a solid amount of sense.
Boston already has Trevor Story at shortstop and will likely rely on one of the top prospects, either Marcelo Mayer or Kristian Campbell, to play second base. The Red Sox are still interested in bringing back Alex Bregman to play third base, too.
On top of that, Boston has been linked to trade talks for both Corey Seager and Ketel Marte.

At some point, there runs out of room on the diamond.
Bichette is a great hitter, but his defense needs work and he likely won't be a shortstop for long no matter where he signs.
If he gets in the $150-200 million range, that ends up being too much for Boston to shell out to try and squeeze him into a crowded infield.

Boston has an outfield surplus, too, and will likely look to trade from that this offseason to add to the pitching rotation.
Obviously, the one angle of signing Bichette that would've especially intrigued Red Sox fans would've been the fact that he was being taken away from the division rival Blue Jays.
But Boston is putting its priorities elsewhere this offseason, and that can work out just fine, too.
