Dustin Pedroia is moving up.

The new National Baseball Hall of Fame voting results were unveiled on Tuesday night, and Pedroia nearly doubled his vote total from a year ago.

In his first year on the ballot, Pedroia got 11.9% of the votes.

A year later, it's 20.7% for Pedroia (with 75% needed for election).

That seems like a long way away, but Pedroia still has eight more years to go. And one of this year's electees, Andruw Jones, opened originally at 7.3% in his first year on the ballot, so it can be done.

Pedroia is a classic case of peak vs. Longevity.

The 5-foot-9 second baseman played so much bigger than he was. He was a Rookie of the Year and an MVP winner.

Pedroia made four All-Star teams, won four Gold Gloves and earned two World Series rings.

He batted.299 in his career with 1,805 hits, 140 homers and 138 steals.

Pedroia only played in nine games after his age-33 season due to a nasty knee injury sustained while playing defense.

Should that be held against him? That's what voters have to decide.

More seem to be moving in his favor, and that'll likely continue as the years move on.

Maybe someday, Pedroia will get his Hall of Fame moment.
