Red Sox insider reveals amazing news regarding the postseason return of injured rookie star Marcelo Mayer image

The Boston Red Sox have a chance to lock themselves into their first playoff appearance since 2021, and only need one more win to do so. Now, they may get an unsuspecting present in the form of one of their rookie stats returning from injury.

Boston Herald’s Mac Cerullo revealed Sox rookie Marcelo Mayer could be able to make a postseason return, and that he’s started baseball activities.

Marcelo Mayer is out of his brace and has begun doing baseball activities. He’s been playing catch and yesterday started taking dry swings,” Cerullo posted.

Cerullo also added a quote from Sox manager Alex Cora, who was the one who revealed Mayer could possibly return. “Interestingly, Alex Cora didn’t close the door on the possibility of a return. ‘I bet he’s pushing.’” Cerullo wrote.

Mayer was only slashing .228/.272/.402/.674 with four home runs over 44 games, but right at the end, it seemed like he was figuring it out. If a bat like his can come into the Sox offense who are prone to being streaky, it would do great for a possible postseason run.

Hopefully Mayer makes it back soon, along with his friend and other member of the Big Three, Roman Anthony. With both of them back, the Sox will be a force to be reckoned with.
