The Boston Red Sox lost Alex Bregman to free agency waters earlier this offseason, and they haven’t done much in trying to bring him back. Now, the reason why seems to have appeared, and it could lead to another team swooping in.
According to Red Sox insider Marino Pepen, Bregman is looking for a huge deal, and the Arizona Diamondbacks are emerging as a major suitor.
Good evening, my People! Happy Wednesday! Alex Bregman is aiming for $170 MM over 5 years and the #RedSox are not close to that demand. The #Dbacks emerge as a serious contender for Bregman's services. We continue, Positive and OK,” Pepen tweeted.
This past season, Bregman slashed.273/.360/.462/.821 with 28 doubles, 18 home runs, and 62 RBI in 114 games. He also dealt with a hamstring injury that sidelined him for a third of the season.

The deal Bregman is aiming for is definitely not what the Sox want. As seen by their offer to Pete Alonso, the Sox are not comfortable giving out a long-term contract to a guy over 30 years old.
Would they give him a long-term deal for less money or vice versa? Probably. With the market for Bregman dwindling, they may be able to get a late signing from him like they did last offseason. However, they better have a backup plan in place in case another team decides to just pay up.
