The Boston Red Sox have a glut of outfielders, and that has meant Jarren Duran has been involved in trade rumors all winter.

What if, instead of a trade, Duran just changed positions?

That's what some Red Sox fans have taken to considering on social media.

At Long Beach State, Duran spent time at second base:

The Red Sox have less certainty at both second base and third base. Top prospect Marcelo Mayer is viewed as a candidate to fill one of those positions.

Mayer could play third, and Duran second, in this hypothetical.

There's no real semblance of reporting on this topic, although baseball social media has been a very position change kind of mood lately.

It's just a thought that has started organically among a fanbase that may not actually want to trade Duran away and instead thinks it can get the most out of him at a different spot.

Maybe it'll happen. That'd be cool if it did, especially if manager Alex Cora was like, yep, saw that on X.

It'd certainly be one intriguing solution to Boston's current roster imbalance.
