Red Sox call up No. 6 prospect to take Dustin May' start tonight vs Athletics, push May to IL image

A little over a week ago, the Boston Red Sox called up Payton Tolle to become part of their pitching staff, and get him acclimated to the majors. Now, it seems they’re onto the next.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Foul Territory TV, the Sox are calling up their No. 6 prospect lefty pitcher Connelly Early, who will be taking the mound tonight against the Athletics

“BREAKING: Sources tell Foul Territory that Red Sox are calling up #6 prospect Connelly Early to start tonight vs Athletics. Dustin May expected to go on IL,” Foul Territory tweeted out.

Early has been tearing it up this year in the minors, between AA and AAA. He’s appeared in a combined 21 games with 18 starts, and has a 2.60 ERA, a record of 10-3, 132 Ks and a BAA of .197 over 100 innings pitched.

As for May, he’s getting sent to the IL for possibly two reasons. One obviously being the Sox needed a spot to bring up Early, and the other because he needs some time to find himself before the postseason. With the Sox, May has struggled, posting a less than mediocre ERA of 5.40 since joining the Sox, with a record of 1-4.

Hopefully Early puts on a clinic and proves he should be on the roster next year, and May figures out his problems in time for the postseason.
