The Boston Red Sox have made it clear already this offseason that they want to add talented arms to their pitching staff.
They could aim to add someone who just pitched for the New York Yankees if they want.
That pitcher: Luke Weaver.
The former starter, now a bullpen weapon, is available in free agency.
MLB.com's Manny Randhawa made the connection in a new article Monday that the Red Sox could be a good fit for Weaver.
"Weaver is coming off a down year by his standards in his second season with the Yankees, but there is plenty of reason to believe he’ll bounce back in 2025, and adding him could create a three-headed monster in the Boston ’pen," Randhawa writes. "Beyond that, it’s always nice for the Red Sox when they can take from their archrivals in the Bronx."

Weaver originally ascended to the major leagues as a promising starting pitcher prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He wasn't moved to the bullpen full time until the Yankees did it in 2024, and he had a 2.89 ERA.
His ERA rose to 3.62 in 2025, including a couple nightmare outings, but Weaver was still reliable more often than not, and he strikes out more than a batter per inning out of the bullpen.
He'd be a great addition for Boston, and as Randhawa writes, it'd be a chance to stick it to their big rival.
