There's no better place to be as a Red Sox pitcher than next to Pedro Martinez on a historical list.
That's where new Boston ace Garrett Crochet finds himself after another game Wednesday in Seattle.
Crochet went six innings against the Mariners, striking out eight while allowing just a lone run. His season ERA is down to 2.20.
That's important, because it allows Crochet to become the second pitcher in Red Sox history to have a 2.20 ERA and 125-plus strikeouts through 16 starts. Pedro was the first, according to UnderdogMLB.
Crochet has exactly those barrier numbers, a 2.20 ERA and 125 strikeouts.
The 6-foot-6 southpaw has been phenomenal in his first Red Sox season. He has a 7-4 record, and his WHIP is a miniscule 1.03.

At 25 years old, Crochet is the future of the Boston pitching rotation for years to come.
He had been with the White Sox since 2020. He was a relief pitcher until 2024, when Chicago finally allowed him to start.
Crochet was strong, a 3.58 ERA in 32 starts that came with a tough-luck 6-12 record.

The Red Sox went out to acquire him in a key deal, and he's been as advertised.
Boston's vibes are a bit odd after the Rafael Devers trade, but as long as Crochet is pitching like this, the Red Sox can remain ultra-competitive.
