The Boston Red Sox found an amazing replacement for Walker Buehler in the starting rotation in Payton Tolle, but it looks like they need to find another. With Dustin May turning out to be a bad trade, they need someone to take his place.
However, something might be in motion to correct that. According to SoxProspects’ Chris Hatfield, AAA flamethrower Kyle Harrison was scratched from his start today, which could mean he gets called up soon.
“Kyle Harrison was originally set to start today. Now he is not. With the report the Red Sox want to keep Tolle on at least 5 days' rest, they would need 1 spot start each of the next 2 weeks. This might mean Harrison gets a start against Cleveland,” Hatfield wrote.
Harrison has been doing well in Worcester, with a 4-2 record, an ERA of 3.65, 48 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.561 in 49 innings pitched. While he isn’t a stud, he would fill the back end of the rotation nicely.
He would also be a lot better than May, who currently has a 5.68 ERA in Boston, a whip of almost 1.7, and a record of 1-4 in five starts.
Harrison is definitely the answer if the Sox want to win. If they want to keep experimenting, they should keep May in and try to see if they can fix whatever’s wrong. However, bringing up Tolle and waiving Buehler was the right move, what’s to say it can’t be the right move in this situation?
