This offseason hasn't been the best for the Boston Red Sox. While they added Johan Oviedo, Sonny Gray, and Willson Contreras in trades, the Red Sox lost Alex Bregman to the Chicago Cubs.

Now, with the Red Sox without an infield option at either third base or second base (thanks to Marcelo Mayer's flexibility), Boston needs to find an alternative to replace Bregman.

According to Sean McAdam of masslive.com, the Red Sox have one free agent slugger, who's hit 325 career home runs, that they reportedly "like" this offseason. That player is Eugenio Suarez.

"According to a source with knowledge of Suarez's market," McAdam writes, "the Red Sox have indicated they 'like' Suarez, and there's an expectation that he will soon find out whether or not they plan on being serious bidders."

Boston needs to find a new infield option, and Suarez is likely their best bet if it cannot find a way to sign free-agent infielder Bo Bichette. The Philadelphia Phillies are showing serious interest, and the Red Sox might have to pivot from another top option.

Suarez, who's 34 years old and coming off a 49-homer season between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners, wouldn't be the worst option.

Ideally, Bichette or Bregman would be on the roster. But if the Red Sox are forced to go down a cheaper route this winter, Suarez makes a lot of sense.

He would likely sign a short-term deal, and if he can bring his elite power to Boston, then he'd make up a little bit of the sting of losing Bregman to the Cubs this offseason.

The Red Sox reportedly "like" him, and a resolution might be found out soon. Boston adding an infielder is a must, and Suarez is a good option for Craig Breslow and company.
