Proposed three-team blockbuster trade sees Red Sox deal Jarren Duran, assets for $13.25 million All-Star ace image

The Boston Red Sox are one of the last teams to make any meaningful moves this offseason, and their time is running out to correct that. However, there may be a blockbuster trade at their fingertips if they think it’s good enough.

WEEI’s Play Tessie co-host Nat Gordon proposed the Sox make a three-team deal, including the Sox, the Kansas City Royals, and the Washington Nationals, to get their No. 2 pitcher they desperately need. Out of that, the Sox would receive Royals All-Star ace Cole Ragans.

The trade would look like this:

Red Sox get: RHP Cole Ragans

Royals get: OF Jarren Duran, LHP MacKenzie Gore

Nationals get: LHP Payton Tolle, SS Franklin Arias

This past season, Ragans dealt with injury and only pitched in 13 games, where he posted a 3-3 record, a 4.67 ERA, 98 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.184; to be fair to him, his ERA was high due to the defense behind him, as he had a FIP of 2.50.

However, if the Sox look at his healthy Cy Young candidate year in 2024, he was much better. He posted an 11-9 record, a 3.14 ERA, 223 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.143 along with a FIP of 2.99.

This trade seems good, but it also seems like the Sox give up the most to make it happen. If they can find a way to make it more evenly split between the teams involved, they should definitely try to make it happen.
