The Boston Red Sox have a few main goals this offseason, and two of them are finding a No. 2 pitcher to pair with Garrett Crochet and solving the logjam in the outfield. While they both can be solved separately, there may be a move that can do both at once.
New York Post’s Dan Bartels proposed a trade that would see the Sox deal Jarren Duran for New York Mets All-Star ace Kodai Senga.
The full trade would look like this:
Red Sox get: RHP Kodai Senga, No. 3 Mets prospect Jett Williams
Mets get: OF Jarren Duran
This trade works well for both sides, especially the Sox. The Sox get rid of one of their star outfielders, but they get a solid No. 2 starter in return. As for the Mets, they get a cost-effective All-Star to replace Brandon Nimmo, who they traded yesterday.
Senga was the ace of the New York, but he would be perfect as the No. 2 starter in Boston. He posted a 3.02 ERA, 109 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.315 in 113 innings pitched. If he has some time to work with Boston’s pitching coach in Andrew Bailey, he may be able to take another step forward and really make Boston’s rotation scary.
While the Sox may not consider this as the first trade to make, it would be nice to keep it in their back pocket.
